FAITH

AGE: 2 years

DIAGNOSIS: Coarctation of the Aorta, Atrial Septal Defect, Bicuspid Aortic Valve.

DIAGNOSED: During pregnancy (19 weeks)

Faith  was diagnosed with a heart defect during pregnacy. At first her parents were told it was a chromosomal problem but after an amniocentesis came back normal, they took a closer look at the heart and she was diagnosed with Coarcation of the Aorta (the aorta is narrow). She was delivered at Mt. Sinai and transferred to SickKids immediately.

Faith had her first surgery, a thoracotomy, the day after she was born (so her scar is on her back). Since her birth, she was then diagnosed with Atrial Septal Defect(ASD)  and Bicuspid Aortic Valve.

She will be having a cardiac catheterization to hopefully close the 3 ASD’s in July. If it is notsuccessful, she will have open heart surgery.

Due to some gross motor skill delays, Faith started walking just before she turned two, and was in physiotherapy and occupational therapy for over a year. She continues to make her parents proud with her achievements and determination.

Faith is lovingly referred to as boss baby in her family. She does things on her own schedule and doesn’t let anyone push her around. She is loud, feisty and stubborn (all of which were prayed for during pregnancy).

Her favourite colour is purple and she loves to play house with her big sister. She will often stop what she’s doing to tell someone she loves them and to offer a big hug.
