Let’s honour our seniors with beautiful portraits.
Meet my mom Lorraine, who at 81 years old came to my studio for photos. Lorraine was one of the beautiful participants in my 40 Over 40 Campaign after she said to me she wanted to have some nice photos…to be used for…you know. ..when the time comes. This isn’t the first time I’ve been asked to do “forever photos” for clients. We don’t like to think about those photos until we really have to but why not think about these things now rather than leaving them up to someone else to make that decision for you.
I’ve taken some fun photos with my mom and girls over the years but these were to be official studio portraits. I wanted mom to have the entire portrait experience with hair and makeup so she could feel pampered…and really special. She was able to be a glamour girl like all the other 40 Over 40 models.
We had such a fun time as Lorraine changed into a few different outfits and later even dipped into the studio closet. Mom was a fabulous model as we worked through the different poses and backdrops.
Legacy portraits are wonderful keepsakes for not only the client but the family as well. These sessions can also include family members for that special family portrait.

A promotion within a company or a with a new company or even the launch of a new business might mean new headshots are in order. A fresh start works well with a fresh new image. This is the perfect opportunity to update your look.
Meet Rachelle Gregory from Paradigm Quest who needed updated business photos for her promotion. We discussed where she might use these photos and what kind of variety would work best. We settled on a few different outfits and a light office look as well as a more traditional headshot.

KING TOWNSHIP MUNICIPAL OFFICE HEADSHOTSMy local municipal office was in need of some new headshots after the election this past fall. Two new councillors joined the team so it was time to update everyone’s photo.I spent the day photographing other senior staff in addition to the Mayor and his council. The day was action packed with a steady stream of staff getting photographed. it was also the Council Inauguration that evening so we needed to stay on schedule with no interruptions.Mayor Steve Pellegrini
All photography took place in the Township of King Municipal building. We set up in a lunch room where there was space for two different backdrops and lighting. Everyone was scheduled for their photo which included some group shots as well.

King Township is a wonderful place to live and work and I know this municipal council work hard for the residents of King. I was so honoured to be able to provide my services for this office and wanted to make sure everything went seamless that day. Although I do most of my headshot work in my studio, I love to get out to locations to photograph teams as well.
CELEBRATING THE WISDOM AND BEAUTY OF WOMEN OVER 40
Aging gracefully…is this possible? I’m sure it is but what does this really mean? We’ve all heard that very familiar “compliment”…”she looks good…for her age” What does that mean????!! No! She just looks good…period.
I set out in Jan 2022 to find 40 women who wanted to celebrate their age and everything that comes with it. Those wrinkles, laugh lines, extra few pounds and all those grey hairs. This was not a time to sit back and hide behind the camera. The time was right to show off those years of wisdom!
My 40 Over 40 Campaign was a smashing success. I photographed the most incredible women who were honest and open with their reasons for participating in this luxury experience. Some were celebrating a milestone birthday, some were celebrating overcoming a health crisis, some had lost weight and turned their life around. Some said…just because! That’s all I wanted. Just because…because you’re awesome just the way you are. No other reason necessary.
My beautiful model Jody explained to me she had lost 100 pounds! She wanted to celebrate by participating in this incredible experience because she was not only half her size but she was healthy and happy. Jody was also turning 60 in the next year and wanted some incredible photos for her party!
Nothing makes me happier than watching my clients come alive during their photo shoot. Jody had this confidence about her that brought out a sparkle in her eyes. Her beauty was radiant and she rocked all her poses!
Celebrate yourself with an empowering photo experience.
You won’t regret it!
The 50+and Fabulous Campaign is now in full swing! Learn more about it and book your session HERE.
Meet Sam…a very successful realtor from the Vaughan area. He’s as nice as nice can be and very good at his job. I know this because Sam helped us buy our home 21 years ago. Recently he came to me to update his headshot. It was time to get some new looks to update his website and social profiles as well as new business cards.
We chatted about the look he was going after and discussed some clothing options. Sam brought two suits he really liked and we took photos with each look. Places where he might use these photos are his website, his LinkedIn profile, his social media pages and business cards. As a broker in the real estate market, Sam needs printed brochures and newsletters as well. He now has a variety of photos to choose from to suit the look he wants.
You only get one chance to make a first impression…Make it a good one!
How old is your headshot? I see people using 20 year old photos who cringe at the thought of having their photo taken. The experience should be enjoyable with lots of information on how to prepare, what to wear and lots of coaching on posing. In this digital world, your headshot might be your first introduction to your potential employer or client. Consider it your digital handshake. Let’s make it a strong one!
How do you feel about having your portrait taken? That’s to say you’ve even had a professional portrait. Apart from the typical headshot, your wedding album or some family photos as your kids were growing up, most people don’t ever think to invest in themselves with beautiful photos.
Photos provide us with that captured moment in time…a great memory, an event or even a quick pic of some detail we don’t feel like writing down. What would our lives be without photos? But not all photos are great portraits. They’re fun, easy and cheap. Taking a great portrait is something much more involved.
Do you like yourself in photos or do you dread the thought of having a photo taken…”I never look good in photos, I don’t know what to where, it costs too much, why do I need photos of myself”…the excuses are endless. These are deep seated reasons people don’t even consider booking a session with a photographer. But what if it was a great experience…maybe you learned to love yourself just a little more as you found a wonderful photographer that made the whole experience easy and fun…that brought out your true self and beauty?
Take my beautiful model Deby who was one of my early 40 Over 40 Campaign models. I watched her transform into this radiant, confident and beautiful women in front of my camera. Her sparkle just kept getting brighter the more I photographed her. I could see this session was very important to her to really feel beautiful and celebrate herself as a women in her 40’s.
Deby was amazing in her session! I could feel her comfort level growing as I moved her from pose to pose. And when we brought in her hubby for some extra special portraits I knew I was capturing some special memories for the two of them.
Do this for you.
One thing that’s so important is to find a photographer you connect with. If you don’t have that trust you will never relax and feel comfortable. But when you do, the magic happens. You will leave your session with the feeling you didn’t know it would be that fun…and didn’t think you could feel that beautiful….like a model. But most important you didn’t realize how worthy and deserving you were of beautiful portraits of yourself. Spoil yourself…you’re so worth it!
As we put all the holiday decorations away, and get back to routine, we start to think about the new year ahead and all that it holds for us. It’s a fresh page..a clean slate that offers us another chance to do some incredible things with our lives. We say good bye to some disappointments of the year past and embrace all the good things to come.
A great way to kick off the year, if you’re in business is with a fresh new headshot. I know that’s not the first thing you think of when setting some goals but have you considered how a new updated look could enhance your digital profile?
To make it easy for you, I have set aside Friday January 27 for Headshot Day. This will be a monthly event where you can come in and be treated to hair and makeup plus a one hour photo session. With a pre-session consultation, we will work together to decide what look(or looks) you require for your business portrait. With wardrobe consultation and the coaching in posing…plus the professional styling…you’ll rock your session.
HERE’S WHAT’S INCLUDED:
• pre-session consultation
• pro makeup and hair artistry
• 2 digital files
• multiple outfit changes
COST: $450 (Regular price $830)

First Communion sacraments are still getting caught up after so many ceremonies were delayed during the pandemic. But it doesn’t matter the time, it’s still just the special memories to families that matter.
I was honoured to be able to capture this beauty on a school PA day. This family drove to my King ON studio just so I could take such precious photos.
As we settle into this new year, plans are being made for the 2022 Catholic sacraments – First Holy Communion and Confirmation. Children will be attending special classes and learning the significance of these ceremonies and learning their prayers. Eventually, as time gets closer, plans will be made for family receptions and new outfits purchased.
It is never too early to plan your photo session to make sure ou get an appointment in time. Thing so think about:
Do you need invitations or thank you cards? Beautiful and professional cards can be designed custom for each child.
We offer elegant products to showcase your beautiful photos. From heirloom albums to custom folio boxes to wall art. We carry a selection of products you will be proud to display in your home. Session fees start at $250.
Let us make this special time in your child’s life last for years to come with treasured photos.
The answer can be different for everyone, but the recommendation is every 2 years. Are you still using that selfie you took years ago but you really like the photo so just don’t update it? Are you hanging on to the more youthful you and don’t want to face facts that a 10 year old headshot might not reflect you now? Do you just hate the whole headshot process and avoid thinking about it? I know how you feel!
But just know this…a freshly updated (professionally) taken photo will show you and your brand in the best light…literally.
Lighting is key to good photos and without good light, you will never look your best. Then there is using good angles and proper posing techniques so you will feel relaxed and confident in front of the camera.
Combine all that with good wardrobe coaching, some makeup and hair artistry and you have the makings of a scroll stopping photo!

What a stunning session we had one late July evening at a beautiful facility in Stouffeville. The sun was perfect. It wasn’t too hot and my stunning subjects were ready for their amazing equine portrait session.
I haven’t been to a horse boarding facility or farm yet that is not picturesque. The rolling fields, the ponds and beautiful trees are just the perfect setting for photos. This area offered a stunning backdrop wherever we walked.
Ballagh, a bay Dutch Warmblood stands over 17 hands high which is quite a contrast to Maria. But at 15 years old this impressive animal is Maria’s partner in the A circuit. They are quite a team!

Everyone loves a delicious cake! It’s the finishing touch to a great meal accompanied by that special coffee. From birthdays to baptisms, a special cake is the highlight of the dessert table. Unless you possess the culinary skill to create one of these masterpieces, usually the go-to is a local bakery or popular baker. In our lovely community here in King, we are blessed to have Sweetie Cakes by Laura Baggetta here to fill those orders.
I’ve had the pleasure of working with Laura for many years now photographing her girls for preschool class photos. Since those days, we have been doing family photos almost every year of her adorable kids(she since has added the cutest little boy to the family) Sweetie Cakes has also been my choice for any cake smash cakes my clients have ordered so I can vouch for her stunning creations, her attention to detail and her all-round kind nature.
Laura tells me how she’s passionate about cake baking and decorating. Her very first cake creation was for her daughter’s 1st birthday! From there she slowly grew into a small, home-based business. Somehow she manages with her 3 kids at home during these COVID days as well as making these beautiful creations for special events.
Anyone who knows Laura knows that beautiful sweet smile and her gentle nature. We worked together to create some branding photos showing just that. She can use these photos for her social media pages and possibly a website down the road.
As Laura says, “I find so much joy in knowing that I can help make someone’s special occasion that much sweeter!” You can check out Laura’s beautiful creations here.

Flattening the curve. It’s the latest hot topic these days. Otherwise known as “staying home” and “social distancing”. We never heard of these terms before but now they are just a natural part of our everyday vocabulary. What other topic is there to speak about it seems other than COVID19. We are living through a pandemic that most of us never could have imagined.
In one month our lives have drastically changed. Many of us are out of work, hopefully only temporarily, but time will tell. Our kids are out of school and trying to continue their studies on-line as parents try their hands at home schooling. Businesses deemed non-essential have closed their doors and those that are open have implemented safe shopping practices. We are told to self-isolate in our homes with our immediate families only and not to go out unless absolutely necessary. We honour and support our newest heroes…the health care workers working tirelessly day and night. But let us not forget all those others who are working frontlines keeping us fed and safe.
.
But most of all we just want to know when things will get back to normal. When can we see our family and friends and just give them a giant hug. As a photographer who cannot hold any sessions, I have a unique opportunity to document these isolating family times not through my beloved DSLR but through the magic of FaceTime. Who ever would have thought you could take family portraits through virtual technology. But when times are tough you resort to drastic measures.
I have been holding FaceTime calls with my subjects and spend some time learning the light in their homes and directing them into some basic poses. Then when I’m ready, I get to take the photo from my end. I think the results are a fun, light hearted way to document the times. It’s keeping me happy until we can all get back to some kind of normal life.
T
Let’s remember these moments one FaceTime portrait at a time! Keep healthy and safe!

We close CHD Awareness Week on a day where the heart symbol is the most prominent…February 14.
CHD (Congenital Heart Defect) refers to defects in the structure of the heart and great vessels that are present at birth.
This is the most common form of birth defect affecting 9 out of 1000 children every year. Please refer to my blog from last year here for more details.
I wanted to highlight the cutest little heart warrior who at 17 months had his open heart 3 months after he was born.
Liam was diagnosed with Tetralogy of Fallot which is a combination of 4 defects that affect normal blood flow throughout the heart.
It was diagnosed 1 week before he was born, during an ultrasound for an unrelated issue. You can imagine what that last week of pregnancy would have been like for Liam’s parents, knowing their son would be born with a serious heart abnormality.
Liam’s mom writes: “Liam had his open heart surgery at 3 months. Recovery took a bit longer than expected but was fairly typical and we made it home 2 days before Christmas!”
Going forward, Liam will continue to have regular cardio follow-ups.”
They repaired his broken heart, but it will never be fixed.. They were unable to save his pulmonary valve during surgery, so it’s a little leaky. He’ll need a new one eventually, but hopefully it won’t be for many, many years!”
Today Liam is a very energetic little guy who didn’t stop running the entire photo session!
You can read about more amazing heart warriors here.
FINE ART PHOTOGRAPHY is defined as photography created with a vision in mind with the goal to express that vision or emotion. Portraits tend to be more moody and soulful and creatively designed.
WANTED: CHILDREN AGED 6-12 YEARS OLD FOR FINE ART PHOTO SESSIONS
I have always been attracted to these soulful portraits but have not taken the time to really shoot them. So I thought I’d take some time during these winter months to do a special project and create some personal visions.
With that in mind, I am currently looking for models. I require children aged 6-12 years old. Clothing is an essential part of these photos so I will be working with parents to either use items your child already has or I will be providing clothing and props.
I will be using these photos for a new portfolio I want to build, so the images will be displayed in my studio, my website and my social media sites.
For your time, you will receive a complementary photo session (45-60 min) and a $100 product credit.
If you are interested, please fill out an application HERE.
DIAGNOSIS: Tetralogy of Fallot, Pulmonary Atresia, and MAPCAS
DIAGNOSED: at birth
To close CHD Awareness Week, I wanted to share the story of a very special heart warrior. If I hadn’t had the opportunity to meet Abby and her family, I might never have become involved in the awareness for CHD, like I have. Abby’s story has been shared in numerous newspaper articles, on her website We Believe In Abby and her We Believe In Abby facebook page. Her story has touched the hearts of not only her immediate community but anyone who has heard her story.
It was recognized immediately after Abby’s birth that something was wrong. Abby’s mom Becky had barely had a chance to hold Abby. It was then they knew there was a problem and it didn’t take long to suspect there was an issue with Abby’s heart. In no time she was being transferred to SickKids.
It was determined Abby had a rare congenital heart defect. She was born without her pulmonary artery which carries blood from the right ventricle of the heart to the lungs to become enriched with oxygen and sent back to the heart. Abby underwent her first open heart surgery at 14 hours old. She was 8 days old when her mom could hold her for the very first time! They were able to take her home a week later only to rush Abby back to the hospital at 5 weeks old. After a heart catheterization, it was discovered her right pulmonary artery had become constricted. Abby then had her second open heart surgery which was the only hope at keeping Abby alive. She remained on ECMO(an extreme form of life support) for two weeks. This surgery was a success except for a severe infection which required another surgery to clean out the area.
Just before her first birthday Abby had another heart cath to help balloon her arteries and take images. She would then qualify for her third open heart surgery in October. Abby was recovering from this surgery and still on ECMO when she required an emergency heart catheterization which was very risky. Abby was a fighter and survived that as well. She went on to have numerous infections and the odds stacked against her. After 12 emotional weeks in the hospital, Abby defied those odds, and went home in January!
Abby’s parents had started a Pay It Forward attitude while Abby was in the hospital which had caught on in her community and beyond. People were performing random acts of kindness to strangers. You can read more about it in The Toronto Star.
The We Believe In Abby Family Day held its first annual event that June to give back to the community as well as raise money for SickKids hospital. It has raised thousands of dollars the last 4 years!
But sadly, not all stories have that happy ending. After a courageous battle, Abby went into cardiac arrest this past October 24, and passed away. Abby was 5 years old. It was a devastating loss not only for her family and friends, but the community as well. This little fighter gained her angel wings but left the biggest hole in everyone’s hearts. Bright pink ribbons started to show up on trees and lamp posts not only in her Schomberg community but neighbouring ones as well. A Go Fund Me page raised over $28,000 in three days. Her memorial service had to be held in the local arena to accommodate the hundreds of people attending.
Abby was small but mighty and was such an inspiration to many in her 5 short years. She will be greatly missed but her legacy will live on. Fundraising efforts are underway to build a memorial park in her name. This will be a park for the community, for families to enjoy and host community events. Donations can be made here.
Finally, I cannot say it any better than the quote on her website….
“While only with us a for a short time. Abby helped shape the spirit of an entire town and her legacy wll be with us for many years to come.
Although she never had the heart she deserved, our hearts are all larger because of her.”
